Instagram Mistakes You Are Making And How To Fix Them?

Ilona Kors Instagram Mistakes Instagram Branding Personal Branding On Instagram

In my 5 years blogging career, I see still a lot of Instagram mistakes people tend to make on their accounts. And then they ask questions: why my following and community is not growing? We all make mistakes and it is totally normal. Believe me I made them too! However, if you want to see growth and reach new heights, it is better to know the Instagram mistakes and avoid making them now!

1. INSTAGRAM MISTAKE: YOUR ACCOUNT IS PRIVATE

If you have your personal account, where you just share pictures of your dog and children with your friends and family, then it can be private. I am ok with that. But, business account which is private gives me a lot of questions and concerns. If people can’t see who you are and what you do probably they will never follow you. If you take Instagram seriously and want it to work for you it should be public. Period!

2. INSTAGRAM MISTAKE: YOU HAVE A BAD BIO OR NO BIO AT ALL

Second Instagram mistake I see still very often is when  there is a poorly written bio. Your BIO is the first thing people see when visiting your profile. Telling you love coffee or cats is nice, but you have exactly 150 characters in your BIO to tell what your profile is about and why they should follow you. Don’t waste those precious characters on things that don’t matter.  Make your BIO worth following you!

3. YOUR ACCOUNT IS NOT VISUALLY PLEASANT

Yes, you heard me right! Instagram is a visual platform and making your photos and feed look nice is essential if you want to see more and more new followers. Posting blindly every picture you take on Instagram is not a smart strategy to take. It is a crucial Instagram mistake! If celebrities can take this road and still see millions of followers, it is not a road you should be taking. Trust me! You should plan your feed ahead, see if your pictures go in line with each other, making a beautiful and cohesive feed. The same as a BIO your feed is the first thing people see. So make it look really cool and worth following! For example, I really love following traveling accounts with visually pleasant content (ex. @yana_leventseva).

4. YOU DON’T USE HASHTAGS OR USE WRONG HASHTAGS

Instagram mistake number 4 is not using hashtags. In fact, hashtags are very important on Instagram. If you want your content to be found and not get lost among millions of other accounts you should be using hashtags. Hashtags help you grow and increase engagement for REAL.  For some reason, there are still a lot of people who don’t use hashtags at all! Figuring out what hashtags and how to use them correctly is very hard and time consuming.

Therefore, I have created ULTIMATE HASHTAG GUIDE to teach you how to use hashtags correctly, teach you about hashtag strategy plus it includes actual hashtags (1500+) that you can just COPY/PASTE to see the results.

5. YOUR ACCOUNT IS ALL ABOUT YOU!

Posting only pictures about you is OK, and this is what a lot of influencers and personal brands are doing. Here I want to say that you should GIVE VALUE to your audience first. Don’t just post a selfie or a picture from your vacation. Leave a space for creativity and content.  Instagram is a social platform that means that it is a conversation and sharing across platform.  You have direct engagement with your followers, customers there, so make it valuable. Therefore, I want you to create a genuine relationship with your tribe and be authentically yourself! Making your content just about you without giving value is an Instagram mistake you should avoid!

That’s it from my side! If you work on those points I guarantee you, you will see positive results in no time! Please share in comments what other Instagram mistakes people are making on this amazing platform? 😲
